Amy started her career at Opportunity Academy as a classroom aide after moving with her family to Kansas in 2019. She decided to transition to teaching through the MAT program at KSU, earning her degree with an emphasis in mathematics in 2022. She helped pilot Opportunity Academy’s first middle school classroom program in the already established alternative school for USD 373. Amy has applied many trauma informed and restorative practices into her classroom while working with her students of various backgrounds and special needs including physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral. She is passionate about finding new and effective ways to advocate for her students, their guardians, and her coworkers in her school district and community.
Amy’s passion for working with at-risk youth comes from having a child at home with some social-emotional and mental health needs. Working in the environment that Opportunity Academy fosters, has been a great way to give back to a community that has many needs and few helping hands.
